Just an hour’s drive west of Ottawa, Ontario, Back Forty Artisan Cheese is located on a picturesque farm in the hamlet of Mississippi Station. From this tiny hamlet, Jeff and Jenna Fenwick deliver their delicious cheese to Ontario shoppers.
Local to: Ottawa
Back Forty itself was founded in 2000, and in 2012 Jeff and Jenna Fenwick took over the farm and business. They craft their cheeses in small batches, using old-world methods and unpasteurized sheep’s milk. They carefully tend to each variety for the two to nine month aging process.
Each of their four artisanal varieties takes its name from a unique landmark, hamlet, or natural feature of Ontario’s Ottawa Valley and surrounding townships, such as the Bonnechere Caves and the Madawaska River.
They sell their Highland Blue, Flower Station, Bonnechere and Madawaska cheeses at their cheese shop and creamery in Mississippi Station, as well as in fine food shops and markets across Ontario, including Localized retailer McKeen Metro Glebe in Ottawa.
