We’ve teamed up with the Rainforest Alliance, an international non-profit, in a shared mission to increase the number of sustainable food products available on grocery store shelves, and to make information accessible to shoppers to make educated purchase decisions. We both aim to help retailers and shoppers to navigate the sea of information available and increase purchases of sustainable food products by providing reliable information to shoppers in-store.
The collaboration:
For thirty years, the Rainforest Alliance has been supporting efforts to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods on farms and forests. They are dedicated to issues related to forest and farm sustainability and have a track record of successful projects around the world. For more than 20 years, they have been certifying products based on rigorous standards of sustainability.
Localize is committed to increasing the information available to consumers about the issues they care most about. We specialize in compiling and integrating transparent and reliable information about where food products come from and providing programs and labels to communicate with shoppers. Localize’s goal is to enable producers to tell their authentic story to shoppers and to work with retailers, certifications, and other organizations to create a sustainable food system driven by empowered consumers.
The purpose:
Companies that offer products with the Rainforest Alliance Certified™ seal demonstrate a commitment to sourcing from farms or forests that meet strict environmental, social, and economic sustainability criteria. The green frog seal found on many of your favorite coffee, tea, and chocolate products, and on fresh fruits and flowers, helps support responsible businesses by actively choosing products from that have implemented best practices in natural resource conservation, human well-being, and climate-smart practices. By combining efforts, Localize and the Rainforest Alliance can help build connections between shoppers and the food businesses that they support when they make purchase decisions.
Our collaboration will enable Localize partners to integrate sustainability claims approved by the Rainforest Alliance into labels and to find and stock products with the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal. Retailers are also able to better track the volume and impact of sales from certified products.
